Minsk has already hosted several IIHF events, including the Continental Cup, U20 World Championship Division 1 and U18 Worlds. In April Belarusian Ice Hockey Association is organizing the Junior World Championship once again.

2009 IIHF World U18 Championship Division I, Group A will take place from April 6 to 12 in the Sport Palace in Minsk (Pobediteley Ave. 4). 
Participating teams are Belarus, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine. The winner of the tournament will be promoted to the top division, the 6th team will be relegated to div. II.
